Atashkadeh (Zoroastrian Temple - Yazd, Iran)

I haven’t posted in a very long time. Well I could make up all kinds of reasons for not posting, but none of it would really matter, because at the end of it all I just haven’t been posting… But here it is…I have decided to post a series of photographs that I took on a trip to the city of Yazd. Some say Yazd is the paradise of the desert. I do have to admit that it is a beautiful city with more history and culture than one can imagine. Over the next couple of days I will be posting images that I took while visiting the city. Each image will relate to a different part and histroy of the place and I will try to provide a little bit of information with the image. I am not an expert in the field but I can only offer the information that was offered to me while I visited each place. The structure in the image is of a building that was created in the year 1934. This buisling is the Zoroastrian place of worship (or Atshashkadeh as we would call it in the farsi languiage). For those of you interested in the ancient times people of Persia worshiped fire and their religion was Zoroastrianism. This religion is based on the teachings of prophet Zoroaster and it was probably founded some time before the 6th century BCE in Persia (Iran).  Thanks to Wikipedia you can always read more about the religion and its details by clicking here.

this buidling is located in the middle of a huge garden surrounded with tress and a round pond in the middle of the courtyard that creates a clear reflection of the building. There is a sacred flame burning inside the temple. The importance of this monument goes back to 1520 years ago when the fire was first lit. The fire itself was transferred to this building when it was built and has been protected here ever since. One of the very important features of the buidling is the religious symbols of Zoroastrians the Faravahar.
